FAQ

  • How do I request an appointment?
Please visit the Contact Us page. You can also email us at info@risingsuncounselingllc.com or call (248) 462-6530.
  • What are the office hours for appointments?
Appointments are scheduled by the therapist and are dependent upon therapist availability. In general, Rising Sun Counseling conducts sessions throughout the day and evening, Monday-Friday.
  • What should I expect during my first session?
As with all sessions at Rising Sun Counseling, your first session will provide a secure and safe environment for you to freely express what current challenges, concerns, or worries brought you to therapy, free of judgment or retaliation. The first session is primarily about your background, which many include questions about your childhood, family dynamics, significant relationships, past history in therapy, and overall perspective of life. During this session, the therapist will discuss goals of therapy and how this may best be achieved.
  • How long are therapy sessions?
Individual therapy sessions are typically around 55 minutes long, while sessions for couples may be scheduled for a greater length of time. The length of each session may vary depending on the needs of the client.
  • What is the cancellation policy?
We ask that you provide at least 24-hours' notice prior to your session for any changes or cancellation. You will be charged $80 out-of-pocket for any late cancellation notices that are not given at least 24 hours in advance. There are no exceptions to this policy.
  • What is confidential in therapy?
For adults, discussions in therapy are confidential. There are a few defined exceptions to this: You are a danger to yourself or others, Abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, A court order requiring a release of therapy records, You as the client(s) sign a Release of Information (ROI) allowing your therapist to disclose or discuss your information to another party. Note that confidentiality applies to a spouse or significant other, and they will not be able to discuss your experience in therapy with your therapist without an ROI from you. For minors, confidentiality is limited, and your legal parent/guardian/caretaker may discuss your treatment with your therapist. This limitation will be discussed in your first session.
  • If I don't have insurance, what will it cost?
Rates are set by each individual therapist. The current out-of-pocket rate is $110-$120 for an individual session and $160 for couples. This can be paid via cash or major credit card and is due at the time of service.
